The North Cascades, often called the "American Alps," stretch through northwestern Washington and into British Columbia. This region is marked by rugged peaks, deep glacial valleys, and diverse ecosystems, from temperate rainforests on the western slopes to drier vegetation on the eastern side. Home to over 1,600 plant species and a variety of wildlife, including black bears, mountain goats, and wolverines, the region also holds a rich human history, with indigenous peoples inhabiting it for thousands of years. Conservation efforts continue to preserve its unique landscapes and biodiversity. Above all, the North Cascades is my favorite place in the world, deeply cherished for its unparalleled beauty and the profound, personal connection it holds for me.
